As part of our festival celebrations, Port Stanley Canfest is running a Best Decorated Business contest, open to all businesses in Port Stanley. The idea is to show our Canadian spirit on July 1st, the first day of our three day festival.
The decorations must promote a Canadian theme using the red and white colours of our flag, and our flag should be included in some manner in your decorations. For example, you could use red and white crêpe paper bunting swags and flags, or red and white geraniums or petunias, to make your home or business look like a ship, a hockey stick, a beaver, a giant maple leaf or even a giant Canadian flag. Maybe you prefer to go with a theme from the pages of Canadian history, such as the voyageurs or Banting's discovery of insulin ~ or even the Avro Arrow jet fighter that Diefenbaker scrapped. The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination and the object is to have fun in the process.
The winning business will be selected on July 1st. The prize is a $500 radio advertising package from the Port Stanley BIA. That's like being paid for demonstrating your Canadian spirit in a way that should improve your profit margin.
As part of our festival celebrations, Port Stanley Canfest is running a Best Decorated Home contest, open to all dwellings in Port Stanley. The idea is to show our Canadian spirit on July 1st, the first day of our three day festival, and the theme for decorating your home is "something Canadian". We're looking for you to use red and white colours (like our flag) and decorate your home perhaps like a Canadian flag, or a Canadian beaver, or a hockey stick, or a hockey puck, or whatever. Use your imagination to create your own Canadian theme.
Judging will be done on July 1st by a non-Port Stanley-resident dignitary who will drive around and select the Best Decorated Home. The prize (a shop vac) is being donated by Port Stanley Home Hardware.
You are invited to register your name, address and phone number for entry into this contest by calling 519-782-4555 or emailing info@portstanleycanfest.ca. You do not need to register to participate in the contest, but the winner will be notified as soon as the resident's name matching the selected address is determined, so registration can make notification of winning much faster.
